Year 9 & 10 Parents - Childcare Sufficiency Survey. Your views on childcare count
05/07/2010 11:15:56 - Parents

If you have a child aged 14 and under (or under 17 if they have a disability), we want your views on childcare.

We know that childcare means different things to different people, so we'd like to find out about your views of childcare:

  • Could you find a place easily?
  • Are the costs in the right price range for you?
  • Is your childcare easy to get to?
  • Is it open at the right times and flexible enough whilst you work?

Your feedback will be used to help the County Council look at childcare across the county to assess if there are any changes that could improve childcare for families.

If you have a child aged 14 and under (under 17 if they have a disability), we'd like to hear from you.

Start the survey now.

Leaked e-mail from Mr Kerridge regarding Year 11 Football Champions
13/05/2010 09:03:50 - General

Dear All

It is with enormous pride that I can inform you all that the Year 11 Football team won a magnificent victory at Vale Park last night, becoming the Sentinel Shield winners in a 3-1 triumph over Heywood.

Lewis Campbell was selected as the man-of-the-match. Without doubt every single player was a credit to the school and it was the team performance (as it has been throughout their time together) that shone through and made it a great day to be an Alleynian!!

It was brilliant that so many staff and students took the time and trouble to join parents at Vale Park, ensuring the Alleynian support was glorious. (What a cheer as Jack Scott lifted the Shield!) Many thanks to all those who attended, I can assure you that it has meant a great deal to the boys.

Yours, literally beaming!

Mr Kerridge

Press release: Becky Walker

Press release: Student from Alleynes interviews Mike Foster (parliamentary under secretary of state for International Development)

On Tuesday 9th March Becky Walker was one of two students chosen to interview Mike Foster (Minister for International Development) for a video that will be shown at the Global Student Forum (GSF) 2010.  GSF is a national student conference held every summer at Westminster which offers young people the opportunity to engage with ministers on a range of issues.

The interview took place at the Department for International Development (DFID) in London and was about DFIDs new strategy for supporting education in the developing world.  This is an important strategy that will be launched this month and is very relevant to GSF 2010 which will focus on the question Why do 75 million children in developing countries not receive even a basic primary education, when education is such a vital path out of poverty?

Becky, a year 12 student from Alleynes High school, had entered a competition

In order to gain this unique opportunity and was chosen for the role by GSF because of her experiences in Mombasa with the Stone Girl Guides and because of her interest and enthusiasm in global developmental issues.  Having attended GSF 2009 she, along with a group of fellow sixth formers, has gone on to help lead a sixth form conference at Alleynes on the issue and to lead an interactive workshop at Christchurch Middle School.

Becky was professionally filmed and is very much looking forward to seeing the finished results.  She said, Mike Foster was very interested in what we had to say and the interview was a great opportunity.  It was really good to hear about the emphasis being placed on education as a route out of poverty throughout the world.  Emma Senior, the link teacher within Alleynes said, Everyone at Alleynes is immensely proud of what Becky has achieved.  She was confident during the filming process and was an excellent ambassador for our school and our town.

Becky has been invited back to London to present her video and talk about her experience in Westminster at GSF 2010.   She will be accompanied by a group of sixth form students from Alleynes.

How is the decision to close a school made?

Unlike some authorities, Staffordshire does not make a blanket decision to close all schools due to inclement weather.

The decision to close a school is made by the Headteacher in agreement with the Chair of Governors.  They have to determine whether children and staff can travel safely to and from school and if the site will remain safe throughout the day

Results Day 2009
04/08/2009 11:09:20 - Exam Information

Results for this year's exams are expected in school as follows:-

  • Thursday 20th August  AS and A2 GCE units and awards
  • Thursday 27th August  GCSE and GCSE module results.

Students following BTEC courses should already know their grades from their subject teachers. No further notification is expected in school until the certificates arrive in September.

Information

  • On each of these two days the school will be open to students from 9.30 am to 11.00 am.
  • Students should wait to enter by the main door when it is unlocked
  • Students taking Edexcel units are also able to access these results directly on-line on these same dates.
  • Instructions on how to access these results have been sent to the pupils’ home addresses.
  • Please allow time to see a member of staff when you come in for your results, either to confirm or discuss your next career/education step.
  • A member of the Connexions team will be present on both results’ days to offer careers/next step advice where necessary.
  • Please note that if students cannot collect the results themselves, results can be given to parents with identification.
  • They can only be given to some other 3rd party if written instruction has been received in advance.
  • Results will not be given over the telephone or by email.
  • Alternatively, if you are going to be away at this time, you may leave a stamped addressed envelope, containing a list of the expected results, with Mrs Arnold for the results to be forwarded. However it is strongly recommended that UCAS candidates should not be away at this time. Most university entrance decisions are made in the first few days following the publication of results.

The deadlines for some of the appeals procedures also come round very quickly.
